'The Garden of Memory' - Blonde Theatre

Start date 22/01/2020
End date 01/02/2020

Palermo (PA)

From the novel of the same name by Martino Lo Cascio, which recalls one of the most heinous mafia crimes of recent decades: the kidnapping of 13-year-old Giuseppe Di Matteo and his murder, two years later, on January 11, 1996. The monologue focuses on the 779 days of the boy's captivity, reconstructed on stage by the narrator through a montage of documentary materials and court depositions issued by those responsible for the kidnapping and the horrific murder. The banality of evil, which gradually emerges from those stories, contrasts Joseph's voice, which we hear in an uninterrupted stream of consciousness as he tries to resist and make sense of what is happening to him. He reflects, dreams, plays, delights, his mind increasingly upset by deprivation and ferocious loneliness. Fabrizio Falco's monologue traces the drama of the event, involving the spectators in a collective testimony of the tragic event. The wise direction of Massimo Spicuzza, ensures the show an unfolding that manages to convey in the depths of the soul of the spectator the deep search for the causes of this cowardly murder.
