The nature reserve is a nature reserve of Zompo Lo Schioppo Abruzzo, established in 1987. Covers an area of about 1025 ha, located entirely within the municipality of Morino, province of L'Aquila within the community montana Valle Roveto. The Zompo lo Schioppo, located in the municipality of Morino, represents the highest waterfall of the Apennines. the waters fall from a height of about 80 metres to then flow downstream towards the village of Morino. The territory is composed of limestone and, as is the case in most of the rocks that are found in the area, including many dolines and sinkholes. The scope of the waterfall originating from Karst features, depends on the amount of precipitation that occur throughout the year and in dry years it branches into three waterfalls, the main one and those of the "nuns", smaller. Smaller waterfalls are always present, creating a place full of water, the main one has blinking character.
