Lake Iseo

Guide: Lakes, Lombardia

Lake Iseo – Lombardy: overlooking villages, green islands and mountain profiles between the valleys of Brescia and Bergamo. Lake Iseo, located between the provinces of Brescia and Bergamo, is a destination that combines nature, culture and traditions in a varied and authentic landscape. Its dark, deep waters are surrounded by mountains, vineyards and small villages, while in the center stands Monte Isola, the largest lake island in Europe. ⛵ Sailing between shores, ports and islands: Ferries connect the main lake centers with Monte Isola on a regular basis. The island is free of private cars, passable on foot or by bicycle, with paths that climb up to the Sanctuary of Ceriola and roads that run along the water between olive trees and vegetable gardens. 👉 Tip: Depart from Sulzano in the morning and spend a few hours exploring the island: climbing to the summit you will find open views of the entire lake and an almost suspended atmosphere. 🚶 Scenic routes and slow routes: On both shores there are paths suitable for everyone: the Via Valeriana, on the Brescia side, crosses hills and ancient villages overlooking the lake; The Bergamo side offers paths through woods and cliffs with extraordinary panoramic points. 👉 Tip: Try the stretch from Marone to Zone: a not too demanding climb that offers a bird's eye view and leads to the curious Erosion Pyramids. 🚲 Cycle paths, nature and accessible shores: Many sections can be traveled by bicycle, with routes that follow the water or cross rural landscapes. The shores of the lake alternate between wooden piers, stony beaches, small harbours and rest areas with green areas and children's playgrounds. 👉 Tip: Cycle along the southern shore, between Paratico and Iseo: the route is also suitable for the less experienced and offers suggestive views of the lake and the morainic hills of Franciacorta. 🍇 Local products and gastronomic culture: The territory of Lake Iseo is known for its flavors strongly linked to the territory: oil, lake fish, mountain cured meats, aged cheeses and DOCG wines of Franciacorta. Restaurants and farmhouses offer traditional recipes and revisited dishes, often accompanied by local labels. 👉 Tip: Book a tasting in a winery on the hills of Erbusco or Adro: a perfect combination of wine culture and landscape. Lake Iseo is a continuous encounter between different elements: water and land, quiet and activity, tradition and discovery. A place to walk with curiosity and an open spirit.
