A man asked a monk: What does your life of silence teach you? and he answered: I see myself, I mirror myself in the water. When the water is agitated nothing is seen, when the water is quiet then man finds himself. Silence is a humble but sure path to love; too many times we prefer any distraction, in order not to stay in touch with ourselves, in order not to really listen to our soul. Precisely within this existential and spiritual journey is located the Monastery of the Poor Clares Hermit of Fara in Sabina, which is located in a historic castle dating back to the period of the early Middle Ages. For many centuries many events were linked to the history of the nearby Abbey of Farfa, and the monastery construction visible today dates back in part to that era, unlike another area rebuilt from scratch. Beyond the entrance gate you immediately have the feeling of entering an enchanted place where it seems that time has stopped. Peace, the beauty of the surrounding nature are strongly linked to the desire to give life to a space in which fraternal charity prevails. These ideals are supported by the community - internally located - of the Poor Clares Hermits which is composed of sisters from different regions and nations, dedicated to the contemplation of God in the footsteps of Clare and Francis of Assisi. They are the ones who welcome the various requests and needs, focusing mainly on the following categories: religious movements, tourist groups, parishes, initiatives, conferences, families, hikers who wish to spend their moments of peace here, as well as for pilgrims traveling to Assisi, the Holy Valley of Rieti, the Way of Francis or the Via Francigena, in need of refreshment during these journeys. young girls who want to understand what is the way to achieve their happiness. Precisely to them is addressed the initiative of the 'Come and see', as it provides for experience by participating directly in the monastic life living - for a period of time that is established with the Abbess - with the community all aspects; from prayer, to work, to study and to all that is inherent in the moments of recreation lived fraternally so as to be able to examine the terrain of consecrated life to fully understand it. Everything is always experienced, with the utmost respect without any kind of constraint. The goal is to help young women in discernment; many can in fact find happiness in consecration but often no one announces it to them. For guests there is available the Foresteria consisting of 45 rooms (for a total of 80 beds) each having an en-suite bathroom with shower, sheets, towels and wifi connection. The Monastery guarantees any type of service: from simple accommodation to full board. Children up to two years old do not pay; from three to five years a discount of 20% is applied. The Monastery of the Poor Clares Hermit remains open on request - and depending on availability - even during the winter months, guests are allowed to participate in community prayer and the structure is equipped with: large internal parking, large outdoor spaces surrounded by nature, 3 dining rooms, 4 rooms for meetings - meetings - small events, 2 chapels. Within the monastery itself, there is the possibility of discovering two extremely interesting realities that are: the Museum of Silence: the complexity of the spiritual life relates to the extreme simplicity of material life present in the monastic community through a path of visually reproduced testimonies. The set-up is innovative, but it is even more so for the way of posing to the visitor. 17 completely incorrupt bodies: these are 17 deceased nuns; their body is dried and the facial features are still fully expressed. They are incorrupt and remained so since the end of 1700; some studies attest that it is most likely - even - the first monastic community of the Poor Clares who settled here - by the will of Cardinal Francesco Barberini - in 1673. The event of a supernatural nature - in fact there has never been human intervention - has led the various communities - which have followed one another in this place over time - to venerate them! They appear composed as a choir in prayer, as a bevy of souls on the move. A great mystery is contained in the beauty of these nuns still alive but dead in the world. Among other things, the community lends itself - on request - to respond to various commissions of favors, icons and gift ideas aimed at marking events and special occasions. In connection with this there is a small shop inside the Monastery where you can buy gadgets and gastronomic specialties, all created and prepared directly by the nuns. Finally, and not in order of importance, we must not underestimate the rather strategic geographical location that allows lovers of trekking, hiking, to undertake an extremely fascinating and varied itinerary to discover a land known only to a few: Sabina. We are, in fact, 40 km from Rome and as many from Rieti far from the chaos of the city, within a green treasure chest capable of preserving its ancient culture and traditions; from important works of art to testimonies of his great past to the tastes of the kitchen, to the precious olive oil.
