Su Gologone Spring - Supramonte

Guide: Natural Parks, Sardegna

Su Gologone Spring – Supramonte: primordial water, shadow canyons and silences that taste of rock and moss. The Su Gologone Spring is one of the most spectacular karst springs in Sardinia. Located at the foot of the Supramonte di Oliena, it flows from a narrow gorge between limestone walls, with clear waters emerging in a deep, mysterious and hypnotic blue eye. It is one of the island's main sources of fresh water, and is still largely unexplored. 💧 The power of invisible nature: Su Gologone is fed by a vast underground network that crosses the Supramonte massif. Speleologists have explored its depths to over 135 meters, but its origin remains hidden in the heart of the mountain. The color of the waters, between emerald green and deep blue, changes with the light and the season. 👉 Tip: Visit the spring in the early hours of the morning, when the light filters through the trees and the water appears as still as glass. 🌲 Paths through woods and limestone walls: The surrounding area is rich in Mediterranean vegetation: holm oaks, junipers, strawberry trees, mosses and lichens. An easy path leads to the spring, but from here there are also longer itineraries in the Supramonte Park, towards Monte Corrasi, Sa Oche and Su Bentu and the caves of Lanaittu. 👉 Tip: Wear hiking shoes even on short trails: the ground can be damp and uneven, especially in the shade of the gorge. 🍃 Sensory and spiritual experience: More than a tourist destination, Su Gologone is a place to be lived with attention and respect. The water flows silently between the stones, the sounds are muffled by the vegetation, and every element invites contemplation. It is a place where nature speaks softly and time seems to slow down. 👉 Tip: Stop for a few minutes in silence near the spring: listen to the sound of the water and observe the reflections. It's a more intense experience than it seems. 🧭 Between culture, nature and tradition: A few kilometers away is Oliena, a village famous for its Nepente wine, traditional embroidery and strong pastoral identity. In the nearby Lanitho Valley, in addition to nature, you can visit Nuragic villages, sacred caves and sheepfolds that are still active, for an authentic immersion in the culture of the Supramonte. 👉 Tip: Taste fresh cheese and carasau bread in one of the local inns: simplicity that tastes of land and history. Su Gologone does not strike with noise, but with depth: it is the water that thinks slowly, under the stone.
