Belluno Dolomites National Park

Guide: Natural Parks, Veneto

Belluno Dolomites National Park – Veneto: intact nature, silent valleys and Dolomite peaks to explore. The Belluno Dolomites National Park extends in the southern part of the province of Belluno, between Valbelluna and the peaks of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is an area of high biodiversity, high-altitude pastures, wild valleys and rocky gorges, ideal for those looking for direct contact with nature, away from mass tourism. 🏞️ A different Dolomite landscape than usual: Here the Dolomites are wilder and less man-made than the more popular Alpine valleys. The park includes deep valleys, high-altitude plateaus, waterfalls, gorges and vertical walls. The most famous mountains are Monte Serva, Sass de Mura, Schiara and Pizzocco. 👉 Tip: Start from the Croce d'Aune Pass to climb towards the Dal Piaz refuge and enjoy a panorama that sweeps up to the sea. 🥾 Scenic trails and unique biodiversity: The paths of the park wind through an intact environment, between pastures, woods, scree and alpine meadows. The flora and fauna are among the richest in Italy: chamois, eagles, marmots and rare flowers coexist in a fragile and protected ecosystem. The excursions range from walks in the valley floor to high-altitude crossings. 👉 Tip: The Val Canzoi ring is perfect for a day among waterfalls, mountain huts and hidden views. 🌿 Silent valleys and unspoiled environments: The most evocative areas of the park are also the least frequented. The Val di San Martino, the Valle del Mis, the Val Pramper and the Val Vescovà are ideal for solo or small group excursions. Many paths lead to spartan huts and bivouacs, often run by volunteers and local associations. 👉 Tip: Visit Lake Mis with its waterfalls and 'natural pools': an enchanted corner that is easily accessible. 🧀 Alpine pastures, mountain flavours and simple hospitality: Inside the park there are active mountain huts, stone shelters and farmhouses where you can taste alpine cheeses, local cured meats, barley soups and homemade desserts. The welcome is simple but authentic, in harmony with the environment. 👉 Tip: Taste the alpine cheese directly at high altitude: produced seasonally and with traditional methods. 🛏️ Where to stay in the Belluno Dolomites Park: The main centers to stay are Sospirolo, Feltre, Pedavena, Agordo and Longarone. The area offers B&Bs, alpine refuges, farmhouses and mountain houses. Some facilities allow direct access to the park's trails. 👉 Tip: Choose accommodation on the Feltre side to have convenient access to both the park and Valbelluna. The Belluno Dolomites Park is a refuge of pure nature, where each path tells of a different mountain: solitary, protected and profoundly Venetian.
