Lake Reschen

Guide: Lakes, Trentino Alto Adige

Lake Resia – Trentino-Alto Adige. Submerged history and borderless landscapes. Lake Resia is located in Val Venosta, on the border with Austria and Switzerland, at an altitude of 1,498 meters. It is famous for the submerged bell tower of Curon, which mysteriously emerges from the waters. An iconic place, where nature, history and wind create a suspended and unmistakable atmosphere. 🌬️ Outdoor sports with a view of the bell tower: The lake is very popular for kite surfing, sailing and windsurfing, thanks to the constant winds. In summer it is ideal for bike rides along the cycle path that runs along the lake, while in winter it turns into a surreal, often icy landscape. 👉 Tip: Stop at the north bank for a perfect photo of the bell tower with the mountains in the background. 🚶 Panoramic walks at high altitude: The circular path around the lake is easy and well maintained, perfect for walkers of all levels. It offers panoramic points, picnic areas and picturesque views of the entire Vinschgau Valley. Trails to the San Valentino lakes and alpine pastures also start in the surrounding area. 👉 Tip: Rent an electric bike in Curon and take your time around the full loop, stopping at the most scenic spots. 📷 A symbol between legend and reality: The Romanesque bell tower that emerges from the water is what remains of the village of Curon Vecchia, submerged in 1950 to build the dam. Today it is one of the most photographed places in South Tyrol, capable of telling memory, beauty and transformation. 👉 Tip: In winter, if the lake freezes, you can walk to the base of the bell tower - an experience not to be missed. 🥟 Alpine border flavours: The area is full of gasthof, huts and restaurants where you can enjoy South Tyrolean cuisine with Austrian influences: dumplings, bacon, gröstl, strudel and game dishes. All accompanied by local wines or craft beers. 👉 Tip: Try a snack with rye bread, fresh butter and bacon while looking at the lake: simple, perfect. 🛌 Accommodation with mountain and lake views: The best facilities are located in Curon, Resia and San Valentino alla Muta, with hotels, residences, chalets and panoramic farmhouses. Many offer sports services, bike rental and direct access to the trails. 👉 Tip: Book a room with a lake view to watch the sunrise over the bell tower directly from the balcony. Lake Resia is a place that remains etched in your face: wind on your face, water that tells stories, horizons that open up to three nations.
