Cadore

Guide: Mountains and Valleys, Veneto

Cadore – Veneto: wild Dolomites, alpine villages and art between valleys and vertical walls. Cadore is a historical and geographical region in the north of Veneto, located in the province of Belluno, in the heart of the Dolomites. It includes valleys, woods, lakes and spectacular peaks, touching places such as Pieve di Cadore, Auronzo, San Vito, Domegge and Comelico. It is a perfect destination for those who love the real mountains, local traditions and unspoiled landscapes. 🏔️ Dolomites to experience in every season: The territory is dominated by famous peaks such as Antelao, Marmarole and Tre Cime di Lavaredo. In summer you can walk along panoramic paths and via ferratas, while in winter you can ski in the Auronzo-Misurina and Padola areas. The landscape is wide and quiet, also ideal for family excursions or outdoor sports. 👉 Tip: Going up towards Misurina, stop at Lake Centro Cadore: not very touristy, but with magnificent views between water and mountains. 🏛️ History, culture and art in the heart of the Dolomites: Cadore is the birthplace of the painter Titian, whose house-museum can be visited in Pieve di Cadore. The area preserves alpine architecture, ethnographic museums, frescoed churches and villages of wood and stone that tell of a mountain lived in and preserved. 👉 Tip: Also visit the Cadore Archaeological Museum: it preserves artifacts that tell the story of the valley's Roman and prehistoric past. 🚶 Hiking, nature and outdoor sports: Cadore offers dozens of trails for hikers, cyclists and snowshoers. From gentle paths in the woods to more technical tracks at high altitude, each valley has its own network of well-marked itineraries. The Lunga Via delle Dolomiti cycle path, which connects Calalzo to Cortina, is also very popular. 👉 Tip: Ride along a section of the old Calalzo–Dobbiaco railway: easy, scenic and also perfect by e-bike. 🧀 Mountain flavors and local products: Cadore cuisine is based on simple dishes, local ingredients and peasant tradition. Polenta, alpine cheeses, game, mushrooms, dumplings and desserts based on berries are the protagonists in the refuges and typical restaurants. 👉 Tip: Taste the imbriago cheese or the Cadore pastin with a local craft beer: genuine and robust flavors like the land from which they are born. 🛏️ Where to stay in the Cadore area: The main centers for overnight stays are Pieve di Cadore, Auronzo, Calalzo, San Vito and Padola. The offer ranges from hotels and B&Bs to refuges and farmhouses, often with panoramic views and direct access to paths or ski slopes. 👉 Tip: If you are looking for tranquility and authenticity, choose a small B&B in one of the side villages: a welcoming atmosphere and direct contact with mountain life. Cadore is a land that speaks of real mountains: strong nature, deep-rooted culture and a rhythm of life that follows the seasons and the landscape.
