Lessinia Regional Natural Park

Guide: Natural Parks, Veneto

Lessinia Natural Park – Veneto: mountain huts, fossils and high-altitude landscapes between Verona and the Little Dolomites. The Lessinia Regional Natural Park extends north of the province of Verona, between Valpolicella, Val d'Adige and the Lessini Mountains plateau. It is a territory of meadows, woods, pastures, caves and canyons, shaped by centuries of rural activity and rich in natural and historical evidence. A perfect destination for hikers, families and lovers of the Veneto mountains. 🌿 A plateau rich in nature and silence: Lessinia offers open and peaceful landscapes, with stone huts, dry stone walls and beech woods. The average altitude (1,200-1,500 meters) makes the climate cool in summer and suitable for walking in all seasons. In winter, the area turns into a destination for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and tobogganing. 👉 Tip: Start your visit from the Park's Visitor Center in Bosco Chiesanuova: an excellent starting point for excursions and local info. 🦴 Among fossils, caves and hidden canyons: The park is known for its prehistoric caves and fossil deposits. Don't miss the Veja Bridge, the largest natural bridge in Europe, and the Valley of the Sphinxes with its bizarre rock formations. Other surprising places are the Grotta di Fumane and the districts with stone architecture of Lessinia. 👉 Tip: Visit the Bolca Fossil Museum, with unique finds dating back 50 million years. 🥾 Excursions between alpine pastures, pastures and views: The paths of Lessinia wind through mountain pastures, woods and grassy ridges. Some paths lead to mountain huts where traditional cheeses such as Monte Veronese are still produced. The walks are suitable for everyone, with moderate differences in height and wide views towards the valleys and, on clear days, up to the Venetian lagoon. 👉 Tip: Take the loop from San Giorgio to the Corno d'Aquilio: simple and with spectacular views. 🧀 Alpine flavours and local traditions: The identity of Lessinia also passes through the table: alpine gnocchi, smoked cured meats, honey, rustic cakes and DOP cheeses are the protagonists in the park's trattorias and farmhouses. Each season brings different products to the table, often at zero km. 👉 Tip: Taste Monte Veronese from the malga directly where it is produced: authentic and aged at high altitude. 🛏️ Where to stay in the Lessinia Park: You can find B&Bs in stone districts, farmhouses among the pastures, panoramic refuges and small mountain hotels. The recommended places for your stay are Bosco Chiesanuova, Erbezzo, Velo Veronese and San Giorgio, all surrounded by nature and well connected to the paths. 👉 Tip: Choose a property in the district to wake up with a view of the meadows and enjoy breakfast with local products. Lessinia is a gentle mountain rich in history, where each path tells the nature, geology and culture of the Veronese highlands.
