Stelvio National Park - Trentino Alto Adige

Guide: Natural Parks, Trentino Alto Adige

Stelvio National Park – Trentino-Alto Adige. Majestic peaks, glaciers and wild life in the soul of the Alps. The Stelvio National Park is one of the oldest and largest in Italy. It stretches between Trentino-Alto Adige, Lombardy and South Tyrol, embracing remote valleys, deep forests, eternal glaciers and villages suspended in time. On the South Tyrolean side, it develops between Val Venosta, Val Martello, Val d'Ultimo and the peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale Group. 🏔️ A landscape sculpted by ice and wind: Here the mountain shows itself in all its power: sparkling glaciers, high-altitude pastures and vertical walls tell the geological history of the Alps. Mount Ortles, with its 3,905 meters, dominates a kingdom where nature is still queen. 👉 Tip: From Solda, take the cable car to the top and admire one of the most exciting views in the entire Alpine arc. 🦌 Free fauna and exciting observation: The park is a true reserve of biodiversity: ibex, chamois, deer, marmots and golden eagles inhabit its valleys. With a little patience and silence, you can encounter the wildlife that inhabits these extreme environments. 👉 Tip: Walk the nature trail in Val Martello to discover the local fauna with educational panels, which are also suitable for families. 🌿 Excursions through woods and glaciers: The park offers hundreds of kilometers of well-marked trails, ranging from walks among larch and fir trees to high glacial routes for experienced hikers. Each itinerary is a journey through grandiose views and deep silences. 👉 Tip: Going up to the Nino Corsi Refuge in Val Martello you enter the heart of the park, with spectacular views of the Cevedale glaciers. 🍽️ Alpine flavours and alpine cuisine: The gastronomic tradition is simple and tasty: dumplings, hot soups, game, bacon and strudel tell the story of alpine life with authenticity. In the farms and huts you can find ancient and genuine flavors. 👉 Tip: Taste the buckwheat cake with blueberry jam, typical of the South Tyrolean valleys. 🛌 Peaceful stays between peaks and valleys: The park's accommodation facilities are designed for those who love silence and contact with nature: mountain hotels, farmhouses, B&Bs and alpine refuges are immersed in unique contexts, often family-run. 👉 Tip: Sleep in Val d'Ultimo in an old hut renovated to breathe in the true alpine essence away from the world. The Stelvio Park is an alpine cathedral where time stands still, the ice tells thousand-year-old stories and every path leads to an encounter with the truest nature.
