Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park

Guide: Natural Parks, Trentino Alto Adige

Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park – Trentino-Alto Adige. Dolomite legends and fairytale landscapes between Alpe di Siusi and Val di Tires. The Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park is one of the most iconic places in South Tyrol. It stretches between the Alpe di Siusi, the Sciliar Massif and the Catinaccio Group, crossing territories of the municipalities of Fiè allo Sciliar, Castelrotto and Tires. Here, the mountain is not only nature, but a story, memory, myth. ⛰️ Sciliar and Rosengarten: iconic mountains and enchanted scenery: The Sciliar, with its flat and unmistakable peak, dominates the Alpe di Siusi like a natural altar. The Rosengarten, on the other hand, offers fiery sunsets that inspired the legend of King Laurin. A landscape that seems to come out of an alpine fairy tale. 👉 Tip: Take the cable car from Siusi to the Compatsch and start a panoramic hike through alpine pastures and flower meadows. 🌺 High-altitude grasslands and rare alpine flora: The Alpe di Siusi, one of the largest high plateaus in Europe, explodes with colors in spring and summer. In the park you will find gentians, edelweiss, nigritelle and a wide variety of medicinal herbs. The lawns are cared for like gardens, but speak the ancient language of transhumance. 👉 Tip: Follow the Bulla geological trail to discover the history of the Dolomites by walking among flowers and thousand-year-old rocks. 🦅 Alive and silent nature: Chamois, marmots, foxes, birds of prey and even the shy eagle owl hide among the woods and ledges. Walking in silence you can witness the flight of an eagle or see the tracks of a wild animal in the snow or mud. 👉 Tip: At dawn or dusk, climb up to Monte Cavone: it is one of the most peaceful and evocative points for nature observation. 🚶 Excursions among huts, legends and views: The paths of the park are well marked and full of charm. From the Bolzano sullo Sciliar Refuge to the Vajolet Towers, every walk is a visual and cultural experience, between local stories, wide views and precious silences. 👉 Tip: Start from Fiè allo Sciliar for a walk that combines Lake Fiè and the wooded plateau, with regenerating breaks in the gasthof along the way. 🍽️ Ladin cuisine and mountain flavours: In the huts and villages of the park you can enjoy typical Ladin and South Tyrolean dishes: spätzle, schlutzkrapfen, baked shank, rustic soups and apple strudel. All accompanied by smoked speck and alpine cheeses. 👉 Tip: Book a sunset dinner in a panoramic alpine hut on the Alpe di Siusi - the experience is unforgettable. 🛌 Sleeping between sky and legends: Hospitality ranges from alpine huts and wooden B&Bs to wellness hotels with spectacular views. The structures are surrounded by nature and respect the harmony of the landscape. The park is ideal for slow-moving stays, inspired by quiet. 👉 Tip: Choose accommodation in Tires al Catinaccio if you want to experience whole days in silence, woods and legendary rocks. The Sciliar-Catinaccio Park is a place where myth is intertwined with geology and every step tells a legend. A natural theater where the light paints the mountain, and time seems to listen.
