WWF Oasis Bolgheri Marshes

Guide: Natural Parks, Toscana

WWF Oasis Bolgheri Marshes – Tuscany: ponds, reeds and silence of water along the Etruscan coast. The WWF Bolgheri Marshes Oasis is the first protected area created by the WWF in Italy, in 1959. It extends between San Guido and Donoratico, in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci, and is a true paradise for wildlife and birdwatchers. Far from the tourist frenzy, it offers an authentic immersion in the Tuscan coastal nature, among flooded woods, wetlands and fossil dunes. 🦩 Birdlife and silent observation: The marsh is an important resting and nesting area for migratory birds: grey herons, egrets, ibises, marsh harriers, storks and pink flamingos can be spotted. The routes wind through observation huts and protected areas, accessible only with guided tours. 👉 Tip: Visit the oasis in autumn or spring for the periods of greatest fauna: an experience to be lived slowly and respectfully. 🌿 Protected habitat and unspoiled nature: The area is characterized by a remarkable variety of environments: marshes, wet meadows, alder forests, ponds and sandy areas. This natural mosaic is home to amphibians, reptiles, rare mammals and a very rich flora. Access is limited to protect the balance of the ecosystem. 👉 Tip: Follow the WWF guides and walk the main nature trail: 2 hours of biodiversity, water landscapes and regenerating silences. 🌳 Between historic pine forests and Mediterranean scrub: The oasis is connected to the Tombolo Forest and the coastal pine forests of the Bolgheri area, offering an immersive experience between shade, resin and intense scents. An environment that is still intact, a few kilometers from the sea and the famous vineyards of the area. 👉 Tip: Combine your visit to the marshes with a walk through the tree-lined avenues of Bolgheri, among cypresses, history and wine. 🛏️ Where to stay: The surroundings of the oasis offer farmhouses immersed in the countryside, wine resorts, rural B&Bs and campsites among the pines. The area is strategic for those who want to alternate excursions in nature with moments of relaxation on the beaches or in the wine villages. 👉 Tip: Stay between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci: you will be in the heart of the Etruscan Coast, between protected nature and Tuscan traditions. The Bolgheri Marshes is a landscape to be listened to rather than crossed: an oasis of biodiversity where every step respects the ancient rhythm of nature.
