Marmolada - Trentino Alto Adige

Guide: Mountains and Valleys, Trentino Alto Adige

Marmolada – Trentino-Alto Adige. Queen of the Dolomites and eternal panorama of the glacier. At 3,343 metres above sea level, the Marmolada is the highest peak in the Dolomites. On the border between Trentino and Veneto, a vertical landscape of pale rocks, sharp ridges, ice and history dominates. Reachable from Malga Ciapela or Passo Fedaia, it is one of the most iconic destinations in the Alps. 🚠 To the top with the panoramic cable car: The Marmolada cable car takes you from Malga Ciapela to Punta Rocca in a few minutes, passing through three intermediate stations. From above, the view sweeps over the entire Dolomites, up to the Austrian Alps on clear days. 👉 Tip: Stop at the panoramic terrace at the summit - the visual effect is extraordinary in any season. 🥾 High-altitude hikes and perennial ice: In summer it is possible to walk along the glacial paths and the Dolomite ridges, or follow more accessible itineraries near Passo Fedaia. For mountaineers, the ascent to the summit is one of the most exciting experiences in the Dolomites. 👉 Tip: Take the path that runs along Lake Fedaia for an easy but scenic walk, at the foot of the glacier. 🧭 Traces of the Great War between rock and ice: The Marmolada was the scene of very hard clashes during the First World War. Today you can visit the Museum of the Great War in Punta Serauta, where testimonies and artifacts tell the life of soldiers in extreme conditions. 👉 Tip: Bring a jacket with you even in summer: the temperature at the summit remains low all year round. ❄️ Eternal snow and deep-sea skiing: In winter, the glacier is home to one of the highest slopes in the Dolomites. The Bellunese is a long and suggestive descent with an open view of Pale di San Martino, Sassolungo and Catinaccio. It is part of Dolomiti Superski. 👉 Tip: Ski in the morning to enjoy the best snow and the clearest colors on the glacier. 🏡 Stays between silence and great beauty: The areas of Malga Ciapela, Passo Fedaia and Rocca Pietore offer refuges, high-altitude hotels and cozy B&Bs. Excellent starting points for summer excursions or winter skiing, with the glacier just a few steps away. 👉 Tip: Book a refuge in the Fedaia area to admire the sunrise on the south face of the Marmolada: a unique and silent moment. The Marmolada is much more than a peak: it is memory, pure nature and a suspended view of the heart of the Dolomites.
