Val Pusteria

Guide: Mountains and Valleys, Trentino Alto Adige

Val Pusteria – Trentino-Alto Adige. Eastern Dolomites, well-kept nature and villages to explore. The Puster Valley stretches from Rio di Pusteria to San Candido, embracing one of the most beautiful and complete areas of South Tyrol. A large, sunny, well-connected territory, which combines Dolomite landscapes, side valleys, alpine lakes and local traditions. ⛰️ Spectacular mountains and open scenery: The valley is flanked by the Sesto Dolomites, the Rieserferner and the Aurina Alps. The most famous peaks are the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, which can be reached by hiking and well-marked trails. The width of the valley makes it ideal for walking, cycling and relaxing. 👉 Tip: Going up to the Locatelli Hut you can admire the Three Peaks from one of the most photographed points in the Dolomites. 🚶 Itineraries suitable for every season: In summer you walk along the Tour of Lake Braies, the Val Fiscalina, the Dobbiaco High Route; In winter, the valley is transformed with ski slopes, snowshoeing and snow-covered trails. The Dobbiaco–Lienz cycle path is one of the most popular routes in the Alps. 👉 Tip: Try the cycle route from San Candido to Lienz (Austria): easy, scenic and also suitable for families. 🏘️ Neat villages and centers to live: Each village has a precise identity: Brunico is lively and cultural, San Candido is elegant, Dobbiaco panoramic, Monguelfo intimate and cared for. The centers are small but full of services, art and opportunities for discovery. 👉 Tip: Stroll through the centre of Brunico and visit the Messner Mountain Museum at the Castle. 🍽️ Local flavours and alpine products: In Val Pusteria you will find active alpine pastures, typical restaurants and farmers' markets. The dishes reflect South Tyrolean cuisine: dumplings, bacon, cheeses, dark bread and traditional desserts. The products are often zero km and linked to the season. 👉 Tip: Stop at an alpine hut above Valdaora for a lunch with a view of meadows and peaks. 🛌 Overnight stays between comfort and nature: Facilities range from wellness hotels, family guesthouses, panoramic farmhouses, campsites and chalets. The valley is well served and each area has starting points for hikes or outdoor activities. 👉 Tip: Choose accommodation in Niederdorf or Dobbiaco for a slow holiday with direct access to forests and paths. Val Pusteria is a complete and welcoming valley: ideal for those looking for nature, movement and an alpine landscape that is always well-kept and accessible.
