Eisack Valley

Guide: Mountains and Valleys, Trentino Alto Adige

Valle Isarco – Trentino-Alto Adige. Accessible mountains, intense flavors and historic villages. The Eisack Valley stretches from Bolzano to the border with Austria, following the course of the Eisack River. It is one of the most inhabited valleys in South Tyrol, but retains an alpine soul, made up of apple orchards, vineyards, castles, paths and stone villages. A perfect destination for those looking for nature and tradition, with a pinch of taste. 🏞️ Cultivated slopes and well-kept nature: The landscape is marked by agricultural terraces, forests and historic farms. From the slopes of the Plose to the pastures of the Villanders Alp, every corner is accessible and ideal for panoramic walks or food and wine tours. 👉 Tip: Take the cable car from Bressanone up to Mount Plose for a walk with a view of the Dolomites. 🏘️ Villages and cities to discover calmly: The valley is home to places rich in history such as Chiusa, Bressanone, Velturno and Vipiteno. The medieval streets, markets and Gothic and Baroque architecture create a unique atmosphere, perfect for slow walks and cultural visits. 👉 Tip: Spend an afternoon in Klausen, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, and visit the Sabiona Monastery. 🍏 Apples, chestnuts and high-altitude wines: The Eisack Valley is famous for the production of apples and chestnuts, but also for white wines with character such as Sylvaner, Kerner and Müller-Thurgau. During autumn, Törggelen is an unmissable opportunity to taste typical dishes on the farms. 👉 Tip: Take part in a Törggelen evening: roasted chestnuts, new wine and local specialities in a traditional parlour. 🥾 Panoramic trails and sunny alpine pastures: Well-marked routes lead to places such as the Alpe di Villandro, Monte Ponente, Alpe di Rodengo and Val di Funes on the side side. Walks suitable for all levels, with views of green peaks and valleys. 👉 Tip: Try the circular hike on the Alpe di Villandro: wide, open and with huts where you can stop for lunch. 🛌 Hospitality between history and nature: The valley offers gasthof, farmhouses, family-run hotels and apartments. The structures are often surrounded by nature or set in quiet villages, overlooking the vineyards or the peaks. 👉 Tip: Choose a renovated farm near Feldthurns to experience the rural flair with all the comforts. The Eisack Valley combines the slow pace of the mountains with the taste of South Tyrolean tradition, in a scenery that is always accessible and full of charm.
