Val Venegia

Guide: Mountains and Valleys, Trentino Alto Adige

Val Venegia – Trentino-Alto Adige. A valley suspended between pastures and vertical Dolomites. Val Venegia is one of the most evocative valleys in Trentino, enclosed in the Paneveggio – Pale di San Martino Natural Park. It is famous for its open mountain pastures, the clear stream and the imposing profile of the Pale that overlook it. An ideal place for scenic walks and days in the middle of nature. ⛰️ A landscape that remains imprinted: The wide green basin of Val Venegia opens up close to the Cimon della Pala and the Pale di San Martino, offering spectacular views at every step. The trails are well-maintained, suitable for everyone, with moderate elevation gain and numerous rest points. 👉 Tip: Follow the path that leads to Baita Segantini: easy, accessible and with one of the most iconic views of the Dolomites. 🥾 Itineraries within everyone's reach: The valley is perfect for relaxed walks or intermediate hikes. From the Pian dei Casoni car park, go up along a forest road that runs along the stream, passing through Malga Venegia and Malga Venegiota, up to the final basin. 👉 Tip: Bring a blanket and stop along the creek for a picnic overlooking the peaks. 🥘 Active alpine pastures and alpine enjoyment: The two main huts offer typical dishes such as dumplings, fresh cheeses, polenta, strudel and alpine yogurt. Excellent refreshment point during or after the excursion. 👉 Tip: Try the mixed alpine dish with cold cuts, cheeses and homemade jams. 📸 Nature to photograph, in every season: Each month offers different colors: from the intense green of summer to the foliage of autumn, up to the immaculate white of winter. It is also a popular place for photographers and nature lovers. 👉 Tip: Go early in the morning or late afternoon for softer lights and less crowding. 🛌 Where to stay in the surroundings: The nearest facilities are located in Passo Rolle, San Martino di Castrozza, Predazzo and Paneveggio. There are hotels, refuges, farmhouses and B&Bs that offer comfort and easy access to the valley. 👉 Tip: Choose a refuge in San Martino di Castrozza to be already at high altitude and enjoy a breakfast overlooking Pale. Val Venegia is a small corner of the unspoilt Dolomites: ideal for walking, breathing and rediscovering the slow rhythm of the real mountain.
