Val di Anterselva

Guide: Mountains and Valleys, Trentino Alto Adige

Val di Anterselva – Trentino-Alto Adige. Pure nature and alpine tranquillity on the borders of Italy. The Val di Anterselva is one of the most unspoilt valleys in South Tyrol, nestled between the Vedrette di Ries and the Villgraten Mountains. Belonging to the municipality of Rasun-Anterselva, it extends to the Stalle Pass, on the border with Austria. A silent and wild valley, ideal for those who love hiking, biathlon, alpine lakes and authentic peace. 🏞️ An emerald lake surrounded by mountains: In the middle of the valley is Lake Anterselva, one of the most picturesque in South Tyrol. Surrounded by coniferous forests and mountains over 3,000 meters high, it offers easy walks and relaxing views in every season. 👉 Tip: Go around the lake on foot: a flat route, suitable for everyone, with postcard views. 🎯 Biathlon and high-altitude sports: The valley is also famous for the Biathlon Center in Anterselva, home to international competitions and World Cups. In winter it is a reference point for cross-country skiing and biathlon, while in summer it becomes an open-air gym for hikers and sportsmen. 👉 Tip: Take a guided tour of the biathlon centre to get to know one of the most exciting winter sports up close. 🥾 Hiking and nature protection: The valley enters the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, with numerous paths leading to alpine pastures, huts and glacial peaks. The route to the Vedrette di Ries Hut is one of the most popular for the beauty and variety of the landscape. 👉 Tip: Climb up to the Stalle Pass and from there take the path to Lake Obersee: a small jewel at high altitude. 🍲 Alpine flavours and mountain hospitality: The local gastronomy offers genuine dishes linked to the peasant tradition: barley soups, speck, dumplings, alpine cheeses and strudel. Refuges, farmhouses and small restaurants offer a simple but well-kept welcome. 👉 Tip: Try a Tyrolean snack in an alpine hut: black bread, fresh butter and local cheeses will win you over. 🏡 Overnight stays with a view of silence: Accommodation in the valley ranges from family-run gasthof and B&Bs to spa hotels, often overlooking meadows and forests. A great base for those who want to rest, explore and enjoy the authenticity of the Alps. 👉 Tip: Choose a facility with a wellness area to relax after a day of hiking or cross-country skiing. The Val di Anterselva is the ideal place for those looking for true nature, outdoor sports and regenerating silence.
