San Colombano Wine Route

Guide: Wine Routes, Lombardia

San Colombano Wine Route – Lombardy: a hill between the plains and the Apennines, where wine meets history. The San Colombano Wine Route develops between the provinces of Milan, Lodi and Pavia, around the only real hill in the Lower Po Valley: that of San Colombano al Lambro. In an otherwise flat landscape, this relief stands out for its agricultural vocation, wine production and the presence of historic villages and traditional farmhouses. 🍷 A hilly wine in the middle of the plain: San Colombano DOC is a red wine made from Croatina, Barbera and Uva Rara grapes. It is produced exclusively in this hilly area, delimited and characterized by a unique microclimate. The result is a fruity, full-bodied but harmonious wine, often vinified even in a young and lively version. 👉 Tip: Visit one of the wineries on the slopes of the hill: many offer outdoor tastings, with views of the surrounding countryside and direct stories from the producers. 🚶 Walks through vineyards, farmhouses and historic villages: The area lends itself to walks on dirt roads, among vineyards, vegetable gardens and old rural buildings. The historic center of San Colombano al Lambro preserves medieval traces, with paved streets, a fortress and glimpses of the agricultural valleys of Lodi. 👉 Tip: Walk the short hilly loop that connects the historic center to the wineries: it is also suitable for occasional walkers and offers sweeping views of the cultivated hills. 🍽️ Rustic flavors and local products: Along the road there are restaurants and farmhouses that offer traditional Lodi and Milanese dishes: risottos, local cured meats, aged cheeses, stewed meats and typical desserts. San Colombano wine also goes well with simple dishes, enhancing local ingredients. 👉 Tip: Book a lunch in a local farmhouse: you can enjoy the red San Colombano paired with salami, risotto alla lodigiana or braised meat, in a genuine and welcoming context. 🚗 A stage between Milan and the Oltrepò: This road is easily accessible from Milan and lends itself to a trip out of town between food and wine and rural landscape. Along the way you can visit small farms, buy typical products and participate in seasonal events dedicated to wine and grape harvest. 👉 Tip: Combine the visit with a stop in the nearby Lodi or Pavia countryside: the area is full of ideas for a weekend of nature, tradition and taste. San Colombano is a hill that stands out in the plain, where the vine tells an agricultural story made up of small productions, authentic flavors and landscapes to be rediscovered.
