Valcalepio Wine and Flavours Route

Guide: Wine Routes, Lombardia

Valcalepio Wine and Flavours Route – Lombardy: hills, vineyards and small treasures between Bergamo and Lake Iseo. The Valcalepio Wine and Flavour Route crosses the undulating landscape of the Bergamo foothills, among woods, ancient villages and expanses of vineyards that follow the course of the hills. It is a territory where wine is part of the culture, and each company tells of a direct relationship with the land. 🍇 DOC wines and native vines: The protagonists are the wines with Controlled Designation of Origin: Valcalepio Rosso, based on Merlot and Cabernet, Valcalepio Bianco with Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco, and the prized Moscato di Scanzo DOCG, a rare passito grown only in a small hilly area. Each wine reflects the balance between climate, soil and winemaking tradition. 👉 Tip: Taste Moscato di Scanzo in one of the historic cellars of the municipality of the same name: the intense aroma and aromatic complexity make it a unique wine in Italy. 🚶 ♀️ Routes through castles, vineyards and rural churches: The routes develop on secondary roads that connect villages, abbeys, villas and castles surrounded by greenery. Among the places not to be missed are Grumello del Monte with its medieval castle, Cenate Sotto and Trescore Balneario, where there are frescoed villas and historic gardens. 👉 Tip: Head to Grumello Castle for a guided tour followed by a tasting – the view of the vineyards is worth the detour. 🌿 Local flavors and Bergamo cuisine: The Route is not just wine: along the way you can discover typical products such as alpine cheeses, aged cured meats, extra virgin olive oil from the hills, honey and rye bread. The cuisine combines simple recipes and robust dishes: casoncelli, risotto with mushrooms, polenta with stew and traditional peasant desserts. 👉 Tip: Stop at a farmhouse with seasonal cuisine: the dishes change depending on the harvest, and the flavors are deeply linked to the landscape that surrounds them. 🏞️ Experiences along three thematic paths: The Road is divided into three itineraries: Red (between villages and vineyards), Green (between hills and woods) and Blue (towards the lake). Each route offers a different opportunity to discover the area: among Romanesque churches, family-run farms and panoramic points that open up unexpected views. 👉 Tip: Bring a guidebook with you or download the map of the itineraries: many sections are marked but not very busy, perfect for those looking for authentic places. The Valcalepio Wine and Flavour Route is an invitation to discover a landscape built with patience and respect, where each wine and each product tells a story rooted in the territory.
