Canavese Wine Route

Guide: Wine Routes, Piemonte

Canavese Wine Route – Piedmont: historic vines, castles and hills between Dora and Serra. The Canavese Wine Route crosses the foothill landscape north of Turin, among hilly vineyards, ancient villages and historical testimonies. Along the way you will come across small wineries, medieval castles and cellars that preserve native vines and deep-rooted winemaking traditions. 🍇 Historic vineyards and native varieties: Canavese is the cradle of vines such as Erbaluce, Baratuciat and Nebbiolo grown at high altitude. The moraine soils, the temperate climate and the differentiated exposures contribute to the production of fresh, mineral and long-lived wines. Among the DOCs, Erbaluce di Caluso and Canavese Rosso stand out. 👉 Tip: Taste a vertical tasting of Erbaluce sparkling wine and passito in a winery in Caluso: two different expressions of the same grape variety. 🏘️ Villages and castles in the hilly landscape: The route touches villages such as Agliè, San Giorgio, Castellamonte and Vistrorio, where Baroque architecture, Savoy castles and artisan traditions intertwine. The landscape alternates woods, vine-covered hills and cultivated fields. 👉 Tip: Visit the Castle of Agliè, a Savoy residence with a park and historic interiors: a dip in the aristocratic Canavese. 🚶 Panoramic itineraries between vineyards and lakes: In addition to wine, the area offers routes for walking and hiking: among the best known, the Via Francigena that crosses the area, and the paths of the Serra Morenica d'Ivrea, from which you can enjoy views of the lakes and the Alps. 👉 Tip: Reach the Belvedere della Serra near Andrate: one of the widest views of the Canavese. 🍷 Family-run wineries and wines with character: Along the way there are numerous small directly managed companies, where you can taste, visit the vineyards and listen to the stories of the producers. Each winery preserves a different style and a personal bond with the land. 👉 Tip: Book a tasting with a guided tour of one of the wineries between Piverone and Settimo Rottaro: you will discover the secrets of Erbaluce processing. The Canavese Wine Route is an itinerary that crosses authentic landscapes and identity wines, where history meets peasant know-how.
