Apple and Flavours Route

Guide: Wine Routes, Trentino Alto Adige

Strada della Mela e dei Sapori – Trentino: crops, local taste and landscapes in the Alpine valleys. The Strada della Mela e dei Sapori winds through the Non and Sole Valleys, in Trentino, crossing one of the largest and most well-kept fruit-growing districts in Europe. The apple, a symbolic product of the area, is the starting point for an itinerary that connects farms, artisans of taste, mountain huts and small producers. 🍏 From apples to the territory: The area is famous for the Val di Non Apple PDO, grown according to precise specifications and harvested between September and October. Next to it there are apple juice, cider, jams, honey and typical sweets, all obtained from local ingredients and traditional processes. 👉 Tip: Visit one of the educational orchards open to the public: you can discover the stages of production up close and do tastings in the field. 🚶 Itineraries between crops and culture: The route crosses villages, valley floors and cultivated slopes: you walk or cycle through the orderly apple orchards, with stops at farms, farmhouses, craft workshops and small museums of peasant civilization. The main stops are Cles, Malè, Fondo, Livo and Romallo. 👉 Tip: In Romallo you can visit an old hydraulic oil mill that is still active, a testimony of the valley's agricultural past. 🧀 Mountain flavours to discover: In addition to apples, the itinerary highlights other typical products: cheeses such as Trentingrana and Casolét, smoked Mortandèla, cured meats and rustic bread. Many establishments offer local cuisine and the possibility of direct purchase. 👉 Tip: Stop at a mountain hut above the Val di Non to taste fresh Casolét and mountain butter, served with rye bread and honey. 🏡 Where to sleep along the way: The area is rich in rural B&Bs, farmhouses, inns and small hotels. The structures belonging to the Strada della Mela often offer breakfasts based on zero-km products and activities related to the agricultural world, such as walks in apple orchards or cooking workshops. 👉 Tip: Choose a panoramic farmhouse near Cles: wake up with a view of the orchards and direct access to paths and cycle paths. The Route of the Apple and Flavors is an invitation to experience Trentino starting from its products: a journey through cultivated nature, living traditions and simple hospitality.
