Gambellara Recioto and Wine Route

Guide: Wine Routes, Veneto

Strada del Recioto e dei Vini Gambellara – Veneto: basaltic hills, intense white wines and small rural villages. The Gambellara Recioto and Wine Route winds through the hilly area west of Vicenza, between the municipalities of Gambellara, Montebello Vicentino, Montorso and Zermeghedo. It is an area of volcanic origin, characterized by mineral soils and strongly linked to viticulture, in particular to the production of wines from Garganega grapes. 🍇 Recioto di Gambellara and local wines: Recioto di Gambellara DOCG is a sweet wine made from Garganega grapes left to dry on traditional racks called "picai". It is also available in the sparkling version. Next to him we find the Gambellara Classico DOC, dry and mineral, and the Vin Santo di Gambellara, produced in limited quantities according to ancient methods. 👉 Tip: Visit a winery in Gambellara: many offer tours of the drying rooms, explanations of the drying technique and guided tastings. 🏛️ Wine villages and historical testimonies: The route touches places with an agricultural and artisan past, today custodians of the wine tradition. Montebello Vicentino preserves villas and rural courtyards; Montorso is known for its view of the Castles of Romeo and Juliet; Gambellara is home to the Wine Museum, linked to the productive history of the area. 👉 Tip: In Montorso, climb up to the Belvedere to admire the valley and the hills embroidered with vineyards, then go down to the village for a wine tasting. 🚶 Walks through vineyards and volcanic landscapes: The area offers hilly paths, secondary roads and cycle paths that cross vineyards, orchards and cultivated fields. The differences in height are modest and the surface mixed, also suitable for relaxing excursions. In spring and autumn, themed walks are organized among the cellars. 👉 Tip: Walk the ring between Gambellara, Selva and Sorio: an itinerary among olive trees, dry stone walls and views of the extinct volcano. 🍽️ Tradition on the table and rural hospitality: Along the way there are farmhouses, trattorias and wineries with kitchens that offer seasonal dishes of the area: bigoli, potato gnocchi, sopressa, local cheeses and desserts based on Recioto. In the winter months, many wineries organize themed lunches in the winemaking rooms. 👉 Tip: Book a lunch during the harvest months: you can taste the freshly tapped Recioto and get to know the stages of processing up close. The Gambellara Recioto and Wine Route is a quiet itinerary, among hills of volcanic origin, wines of character and traditions rooted in the peasant culture of the Vicenza area.
